There are many conditions that fall under the category of “Medigap” or “hereditary” coverage. A good example is Arthritis – one of the most common ailments in our society today. A large percentage of the population will battle some form of arthritis at some point in their lives. This can range from a painful toe to rheumatoid arthritis, which if left untreated can be debilitating.

Another condition that is common among seniors is called Dementia and it is also one of the most expensive. Dementia can lead to memory loss, depression, and a lower quality of life. It can also affect the way how the senior communicates and uses their brain. Medicare can provide some coverage for this condition, but there are other things that need to be done on your own.

Another condition to consider is COPD – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. This condition is serious and dangerous. Not only does it take a long time to recover from COPD, but it can cause some psychological effects as well. Many patients who have suffered this condition end up having trouble going back to work, and some never really leave the hospital after suffering with COPD.

One more condition to mention is MS – Multiple Sclerosis. This is a profoundly serious condition, which affects your central nervous system. If left untreated, MS can cause permanent disability and death. There are many medications that can be prescribed for MS, but unfortunately, there are no cures for this disease. MS patients are often placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant.

Another condition that is often overlooked is CFS – Chronic Fluid Stress. This is caused by a decreased blood supply to the organ of the patient most affected, the heart. Again, there are medications available, but if a patient has been diagnosed with CFS, his or her doctor may recommend a heart transplant as a treatment option. For the patient and his or her family, this is yet another serious condition.

An extremely common condition that elderly people suffer from is Sleep Apnea. Apnea can lead to complications such as cardiac arrhythmias. Sleep apnea is quite common in people over the age of 60. Many times, this condition is first noticed when a patient begins to experience symptoms such as soreness during the night or loud snoring. A sleep study is recommended for patients who have apnea.

Believe it or not, you can have a drug allergy that will affect your ability to take your medicines. An example of this would be a latex allergy. Someone with a latex allergy will experience an allergic reaction if they are ever given a prescription for a medicine containing latex. Another example of a drug allergy is gluten. If you ever encounter food that contains gluten, you can develop a rash or hives.

If you are in a position where you are becoming confused by these conditions, do not feel bad – it is not your fault. Often, it is not easy for someone to deal with the symptoms of these conditions. Also keep in mind that this list is not an exhaustive one. There are more conditions that fall under the “9 common conditions that Medicare Services can help treat the elderly” umbrella. If you or a loved one feel like you fit into any of these categories, contact Medicare Services right away.

While not technically a “condition”, diabetes is another condition that is often listed. Diabetes can lead to several other problems – including blindness and heart disease. If you have had diabetes, you may have tried insulin or other medications to help control your condition, but if you do not have the proper insulin levels, you can do a lot of damage to yourself over time. Luckily, Medicare will cover some of your costs so that you can prevent diabetes and other expensive conditions.

Any of the 9 common conditions that Medicare Services can help treat the elderly can be taken care of through the program.
